Ceramic Kiln Sets Fire Alarm Off
January 31, 2012
A ceramic kiln that was being used sent a full structure fire assignment to Heritage Elementary School just before school started Tuesday morning. The kiln was allowing too much heat and smoke to escape thus causing the fire alarm to go off. A dirty filter in the hood exhaust system also played a part in the alarm activation. Power was killed to the kiln and the area was allowed to vent before staff or students were allowed in the building.

Falls units were on scene first marking it a working fire with heavy fire showing from the rear of the house as well as the roof. Interior attack was made but was unsuccessful due to limited water supply and unsafe conditions. All crews working inside were pulled out and a ladder truck master stream was used to extinguish the fire. No one was home at the time of the fire; however, a dog lost its life in the blaze. The fire was still under investigation when crews left the scene. (Click here for more pictures)(Photos courtesy of Mike Legeros)

Cold Weather Brings A Chimney Fire

It is important to have chimneys cleaned before cold weather sets in as they can easily catch fire from too much build-up.
